Operating Theatre Manger

  • Berkshire Grove Hospital is looking for an experienced and motivated Operating Theatre Manager to lead the theatre department. This is a key leadership role, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of our surgical services, supporting our clinical teams and maintaining the highest standards of patient care. We are a growing hospital with a strong focus on patient experience, quality, teamwork and professionalism, and we are looking for someone who shares those values

  • • Collaborate with the outgoing Operating Theatre Manager to ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities. 

    • Oversee the day‑to‑day running of the operating theatre department to ensure operating lists are delivered safely, smoothly and on schedule.

    • Work closely with consultants, anaesthetists, theatre nurses, ODPs and other departments to support high quality and safe patient pathways.

    • Lead, support and develop the theatre team, including rota management, recruitment, staff development and performance reviews.

    • Monitor theatre performance, including utilisation, turnaround times and cancellations, and implement improvements where needed.

    • Take a lead role in clinical governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, managing incidents and driving quality improvement.

    • Manage theatre budgets, equipment needs, consumables and optimise staffing levels to ensure value for money without compromising care and without wastage.

    • Contribute to wider hospital planning and strategy, especially around surgical services and capacity, and report on worked hours by substantive and bank staff.

    • Promote a positive culture focused on patient safety, patient experience, teamwork and staff wellbeing.

    • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control, health and safety and other statutory requirements.

    • Support service development projects and help introduce new ways of working where beneficial.

    • Engage fully with all hospital operational software, whilst maintaining data security and data confidentiality in line with legislation.

    • On occasion and as needed, step into a clinical role to provide cover in case of unexpected absence and/or to ensure continuity of the clinical service. 

  • • Significant experience in a senior theatre or perioperative leadership role is desirable, ideally within the private sector but NHS experience is also considered desirable.

    • A clinical background such as Registered Nurse or ODP with relevant perioperative experience is essential.

    • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and support a multidisciplinary team are essential.

    • Experience managing budgets, procurement and service delivery is desirable.

    • A solid understanding of clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement is essential.

    • Excellent organisational and decision-making skills are essential.

    • Flexible approach to working hours is essential, in line with theatre requirements.

    • A relevant qualification in healthcare is essential, whilst a relevant qualification in management or a related discipline is desirable.

    • Commitment to ongoing professional development is essential.

    About Berkshire Grove Hospital

    Berkshire Grove Hospital is a modern private hospital in Maidenhead, providing high quality clinical care in a contemporary setting. Our focus is on combining excellent surgical outcomes with a supportive, well-run environment for patients and staff.

  • Salary: £42,000 to £65,000 per annum (full time; substantive), depending on experience and qualifications.  We can consider a less than full time working contract in the first instance if the agreed days of work can align well with the operational needs of the hospital.  Benefits package, including private pension, paid time off and free on-site parking when at work.
